The New Stuff

Apple quietly updates the Mac Pro lineup

While apple did not mention the Mac Pro lineup onstage today, the website has been now updated to include new CPU options for the Mac Pros but that appears to be the only change so far.

The new $2.499 base model of the Mac Pro will come with 3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon processor, 6GB of RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive. You also have the option to upgrade the Mac Pro to a six-core 3.33 GHz processor for an extra $500. Stepping up to the third model which is priced at $3,799, that price tag will get you two 2.4 six-core Intel Exon Processors with 12 GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive. Apple's server option is listed at $2.999 for one 3.2 GHz quad-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and two 1 TB hard drives.

These upgrades are a minor refresh but it does give the Mac Pros a slight improvement. The machines all appear to have all the same options as the earlier models including up to 2 TB of SSDs, up to 64 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 5770 and 5870 graphics cards, and the same USB 2.0, Bluetooth, Ethernet and other ports from the last models.

Overall, the processors were the main upgrade to these machines. Unfortunately, there is no USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, or the rumoured redesigned cases.
