Apple Takes Possession of iPhone5.com Domain

Earlier this month, Macrumours noted that Apple had filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) seeking to gain ownership of the iPhone5.com domain name, which had hosted a small independent discussion forum of the iPhone 5 for the past year and a half. 

The next web has now reported that the case has been terminated, which means that the dispute has been resolve without WIPO having had to make a decision. The domain is now controlled by the Corporation Service Company on Apple's behalf and now displays a blank page. 


Apple's move to take the iPhone 5.com domain name naturally fuels speculation that the name of its next-generation of the iPhone. Apple is simply protecting its iPhone trademarks while also seeking to control content at what is likely to be a popular destination for those searching for information on the company's products.
