Elder Scrolls, originally developed by Bethesda Game Studios, creators of the well renowned games 'Oblivion' and more recently 'Skryim' have announced on May 3rd that they will be releasing an MMORPG (Mass multiplayer online role playing game) in 2013 titled 'The Elder Scrolls Online'. This could go one of two ways in my opinion. It could be a gargantuan success if it is made correctly and Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios take their time and address criticisms of previous games and make no school boy errors in making it an MMORPG. By that I mean, they will need to stick to the fundamentals of what makes an MMORPG and MMORPG. I think that if they do everything correctly, they could be the new rival to World of Warcraft, and SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic).
One of the most interesting aspects that have been announced is the fact that you can now venture across the whole of Tamriel, this is the first time that you are able to do this since the Arena. This is incredible, if the graphics are half as good as they were for Skyrim, then it will be a pleasure roaming around Tamriel, seeing the provinces of Skyrim, Cyrodill, Hammerfell, etc. I have no doubt in my mind that we will have to pay a subscription for this game, the majority of MMORPG's you have to pay a monthly subscription, but I believe that if ZeniMax either make the subscription cheaper or completely disregard it and the quality of the game rivals World of Warcraft, then I believe that WoW would lose a substantial amount of subscribers unless they countered this by lowering their prices.
I am looking forward to finding out more information about this game, it has the potential to become great, but it does depend if the developers cut corners or not. What I mean by this is if they go all out on the detail like they have for the game, and ensure that the quests that are featured in the game are of the highest quality. I have a certain confidence in this game, purely because Bethesda are helping create it, they have been responsible for games such as Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc. More information will be released on this game throughout the year. If you haven't seen the trailer for the game Click here (Yes that voice is Michael Gambon from Harry Potter).
