The New Stuff

Google+ for Android update lets you start Hangouts from your Phone!

Google updated the Google+ iOS app a couple of days ago with a complete visual overhaul. Now the company has brought the new look to Android as well.

Google+ for Android now lets you Hangout directly from your mobile phone. In the last version, you could join a Hangout in progress but you couldn't make one unless you used the separate Messenger app. This new feature means you can choose a Hangout instead of a phone call or a Skype call, which is really nice. The "incoming Hangout" screen even looks like you're answering a phone call.

The rest of the update is to bring the Android interface up to par with Google+ experience for iOS. There is a new slide-out navigation bar for moving around the various parts of the app, instead of always having to go back to the home screen to switch views. This is a neat feature because it takes much less time and effort to go around the Google+ app.

The stream has a new look, with a full-width media and easily accessible +1 buttons. You can no edit posts inline or download photos directly from Google+ to your phone.

The Google+ app was very basic and simple, but this update is very user friendly and a lot more fun t use. It brings a much-needed visual flair to the Android experience.
