Are Microsoft Dropping Microsoft Points?

Since Microsoft launched Xbox Live we have put up with entering long codes into the Xbox just to buy an add-on, video or even a game. Well now those days could be numbered.

According to a report, they might be going away this year to be replaced by a more suitable method, which could be using  real currency to be used for not only Xbox Live but Zune Marketplace and Windows Phone.

Although Microsoft points were the only way to buy items on Xbox Live, in 2009 they introduced Games on Demand where Microsoft started asking for real currency in exchange for retail Xbox 360 games. From then on people have been asking why cant they use this currency system for the whole of Xbox Live Marketplace. Even the exchange rate of points to money is confusing as its hard to work out how much a certain amount of Microsoft Points is worth, so you do not even know how much your spending on that video or game.

Its unlikely that many people will be upset of their removal as they bring us no benefit using them and cause too much hassle.
