GAME Over

GAME was founded in 1991, and has been the top provider of games within the UK for 20 years. I am extremely disappointed to tell you that it has all come to an end in March 2012. The reason being that companies such as Steam, and Amazon are depleting the amount of people who want to go to the shops to purchase games. In the year 2007 GAME brought out Gamestation, because of this it is now likely that Gamestation will no longer exist soon, unless somebody wishes to buy that part of the company from Game. The main reason that GAME has had to call in the administrators is because their directors, and higher up employees, have been gambling their money that they have been earning on the stock market. This is absurd! That a company as big as this would risk their whole business just to attempt to earn some more money, and they have got what they deserved in my opinion!

Ever since GAME began to have trouble with EA over the selling of Mass Effect 3, it seemed likely that soon they would go out of business because they would lose out on such a vast audience that wished to purchase the game. The reason that they were not permitted to sell the game was because they owed EA money from all of the games that they obtained from them. (The way that this works is that GAME will 'borrow' the games that they are planning to sell from the company that has produced the game, and they will then pay the money back by selling the games). Although for Mass Effect 3, EA would not allow GAME to borrow them, because they already owed them a vast amount of money that they could not afford to pay back. This was one of the main reasons that GAME have gone downhill, although the physical purchasing of games has been declining since 2008.

This is a quote from one of the higher employees at GAME, he openly admitted that the games industry as been shrinking since 2008. This is due to the advance in technology and the purchasing of games online. If you still have points or vouchers for GAME they can still be used for the next 3 days, (21/3/12 - 24/3/12) so don't worry until then you can still buy games from there, but I would hurry if I were you!
