Facebook is still continuing to grab the headlines left, right and center with the giant Social Media company to buy the semi-popular Web browser, Opera.

The Browser which is mainly used on Apple and Android based mobile devices and is also available on desktops, which will help Facebook in the future to further monetise the mobile market.

The company has been long reported to be interested in developing its own OS and may even be releasing its 'Social Smartphone' in 2013, in response to research showing its users are increasingly accessing the social network site from portable devices.

A Facebook browser would allow the company to build in plug-ins and menu bar features so that the social networking site will become fully integrated into a web browser and enabling data marketing at all times regardless of whether the actual site was being accessed.

The acquisition of a quality mobile browser would seem a smart move as it would avoid Mark Zuckerberg and co having to develop the software from scratch.

Opera Software - which claim to have around 200 million users in total - has confirmed it is presently taking approaches from potential buyers. Facebook so far has decline to comment on what would be the latest storyline in the acquisition.

According data compiled by Stat Counter, Google Chrome is now the most used web browser being closely followed by Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has been the most used browser for some time but conceded their title to the very popular Google Chrome. From the chart you can see that there is a steady increase in Google Chrome's popularity alongside a steady fall in Internet Explores popularity, which could be caused by people switching their browser from one to the other.

Firefox is third, while Safari and Opera are fourth and fifth, who are also a long way off third place. It is doubtful that Internet Explorer will ever get back to its days where it dominated being the most used web browser but the release of Internet Explorer 10 (Preview here for Windows 7 only) could tempt back lost users.

Testing the amount of people using different browsers across the Internet is very difficult and the stats received can not always be accurate so this chart could not be telling the whole story. However from this chart and the time of testing the title belongs to Google Chrome.
