A month has gone by which means that there is a new version of Firefox. The latest version is now Firefox 14 and Mozilla released it bang-on time - about six weeks after the last version. There is a number of different changes that have been in the works for some time. One of the biggest new features shipped with Firefox 14 is probably the implementation of HTTPS searching in Google. Some people (especially end users) will not really notice a difference, but search results will now be from data-gathering services. Mac OS X Lion users will see a significant change because now the browser finally supports Lion's native full-screen mode.

Another feature that probably everyone has wanted for a long time in Firefox, is that the browser's "awesome bar" now supports autocomplete, and also a new Pointer Lock API built-in that is supposed to help smooth out mouse movements in apps that "require signifiant mouse input to control movements. Highly visual applications and those that run in first-person are prime candidates to benefit from the new API.

Mozilla did not forget gamers either. The Pointer Lock API keeps the mouse within the confines of the app you're using, so you don't accidentally click outside of the app and jump to another app or your desktop. Yesterday Apple released a Java update to fix the Flashback malware. Today, Apple has released a standalone Flashback malware removal tool to clean the infection from a Mac running OS X Lion without java installed. 

About the Flashback malware Removal tool:

"This Flashback malware removal tool that will remove the most common variants of the Flashback malware. 
If the Flashback malware is found, a dialog will be presented notifying the user that malware was removed. 
In some cases, the Flashback malware removal tool may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware. 
This update is recommended for all OS X Lion users without Java installed."

While Apple has fixed the security issue with the Flashback malware incident in the new Java update, other versions of the malware have found their way and used social engineering and other methods to gain access to users' systems.

The update weighs in at 356 KB and requires OS X Lion without Java installed.

Apple has asked for developers to focus their attention on the Address Book, Graphics, iCal, Mail and Printing in the new build which also contains one issue related to playing purchased content through Quicktime.
