There has been recent reports about a redesigned 'Flatter user interface in iOS 7, 9to5Mac says the next version of the operating system will lose "all signs of gloss, shine and skeuomorphism".

Jony Ive took charge of all Apple's user interface teams last October following a management shakeup.

"While the look of the updated system may be surprising to some, iOS 7 is reportedly not more difficult to use than earlier versions of software platform. There is apparently no new learning curve in the same way there was no learning curve when the iPods went color. While iOS 7 does look different, its core apps and system fundamentals (like the Lock and Home screens) mostly operate in a similar fashion to how they do today.

Apple Posts Two New iPhone 5 Television Ads, 'Orchestra' and 'Turkey'

Apple has just posted two new iPhone 5 television ads. The ads are titled 'Orchestra' and 'Turkey'. Orchestra focuses on the microphones that Apple uses to reduce background noise during calls. Turkey shows off the Shared Photo Stream feature of iOS 6.

It looks like iOS 6.1 is on its way with the first beta arriving to developers. The update is expected to arrive sometime after the holidays with Xcode 4.6 preview for developers to tinker with. The codename for the build is "Build 10B5095f" which has been seen on Apple's official site. 

New tools for making Maps

The most notable new tool is a class called "MKLocalSearch" for the Map Kit framework. It lets programs "search for map-based addresses and points of interest." Apple releases iOS 6.1 beta to developers

It looks like iOS 6.1 is on its way with the first beta arriving to developers. The update is expected to arrive sometime after the holidays with Xcode 4.6 preview for developers to tinker with. The codename for the build is "Build 10B5095f" which has been seen on Apple's official site.

“In addition, the new software will improve Wi-Fi support, fix cellular data not working in some cases, add a consolidated cellular data switch for iTunes Match, fix a bug that allowed access to Passbook pass details from the lock screen, and also finally fix the bug that caused Exchange meetings to be unexpectedly cancelled for the entire calendar invite group.” 

Also, the company is also just beginning to test iOS 6.1 update, which makes this "extremely unlikely" that it will ship with the iPad Mini on November 2nd.

"This makes it extremely unlikely iOS 6.1 will ship with the new iPad mini by November 2nd unless there is a separate build just for the new iPad, and iOS 6.1 for all other devices will launch at a later time."

We are still unsure of the timeframe of the update but it could come after the holidays or sometime this year.

It is the same shape as the iPhone 4/4s but it does have a 4 inch display, half an inch bigger than the 4/4s (with the same pixels per inch, 326). Many people who have the 4s (myself included) are reluctant to upgrade to this iPhone for several reasons. Firstly, I think it looks the same aesthetically (apart from the obvious height and thickness), and there are only minor improvements from the 4s. If you look at the table below, you can see that there is not much of a difference between the 4s and the 5, the rear camera is the same 8MP that was on the 4s, the video capture is also the same as the 4s (1080p).

Although there are only a few changes, all of the changes that have been made are really nice touches, like the bigger screen. I have to concede it feels better to grasp in your hand than the 4s does, and the weight, the weight is arguably one of it's defining features, this phone is stupidly light for the size of it. With both of them in your hand the 4s feels like a brick, whilst in the other hand there's a really light, really sleek, and really quite beautiful. Also another defining feature of the new iPhone is the lightning connector. This connector has replaced the 30-pin connector which Apple have been using on the majority of their portable devices since 2003. Some people see this as a positive (space saving, etc.), but multiple people also see it as a negative, because of all of the adapters that they have purchased beforehand for their old 30-pin devices. In my opinion, this smaller connector would have happened eventually, so why not now? It was an inevitability, they would have had to put it on one of their devices to begin, so why not the iPhone 5? and the new iPod touch range?

Now I am a huge fan of all Apple products, a tiny bit of a fan boy to be perfectly honest, but all things considered I think that if you have the iPhone 4 then it is worth the upgrade, but if you have the 4s, you should only really upgrade if you want it/ can afford it, don't feel like pressured to purchase it because there's a bigger screen and better colours, I think that it would be worth the wait for next year's model, but that's just the way I look at it, obviously if you want to go out and buy it then be my guest, but I think it would be wise if you waited until next year!

I have to say at first glance they look very aesthetically pleasing, and from the off you can clearly see they are keeping up to date with earphones of today. But as usual Apple have attempted to stay as unique as possible by naming them 'Earpods', which I like. They have tried to set themselves apart from other competitors, as they have always tried to do. The Earpods come with a mic and play, pause, and volume button much the same as the previous earphones.

The Earpods will retail at £25 ($30) which is the same price as the previous generation of headphones. I have managed to obtain a pair of these Earpods, and I have to say I am majorly impressed! The phone also features in-cell technology that was previously rumoured that allows the display to be even thinner since the touch sensors are integrated into the display itself instead of a separate layer.

The new iPhone also has LTE connectivity using a single chip for voice and data and a dynamic antenna that can switch connections as needed. The LTE connectivity will be compatible with all of the major cellular networks in the US plus others in Europe and around the world. The iPhone 5 also gets improved Wi-Fi connectivity with dual-channel 802.11(n) capability.

The new iPhone also has a new A6 processor that is twice as fast as the iPhone 4S (which carries the A5 chip). The A6 processor is also 22% smaller and more efficient. The battery life on the iPhone 5 will offer 8 hours of 3G or LTE talk time or browsing or 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing or 225 hours of standby time. 

The iPhone 5's rear-facing camera doesn't get  resolution bump, keeping it at an 8-megapixel sensor, though the sensor is thinner and the lens cover is sapphire crystal. The camera function gets a new dynamic low-light mode and faster photo capture. The front-facing FaceTime camera will offer 270p HD video capture with the ability to take photos while recording video. 

The iPhone 5 gets an additional microphone, bringing the total to three compared to the two present in the iPhone 4S. The microphones will be located on the bottom, front and rear of the iPhone 5 to improve voice recognition and noise cancellation. Apple's new EarPods earphones are also included. 

The iPhone 5 will come in black or white. The black will have a anodised aluminium back while the white version will have a raw aluminium back. The iPhone 5 will cost $199, $299, and $399 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models with a contract. The iPhone 4S will be reduced to $99 and the iPhone 4 will be free with a contract. 

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 will begin on Friday, September 14 and apple will begin shipping the new device on September 21 in nine countries including the US and Canada. The iPhone 5 will become available in additional countries next month and in 100 countries by the end of the year.

Following from the prematurely confirmed the "iPhone 5" name in search results on Apple's website, users have been trying to find evidence of other additional announcements today. Several other press release links have been found indicating that Apple will be releasing an updated version of iTunes, as well as a new iPod touch and iPod nano models.

Now, over the weekend, we have now seen the side-encompassing backplate, paired with the front cover that showed up in the first assembled photos of this handset. Today, Macotakara has a video of the same assembly, giving us a quick glimpse of what the next-generation iPhone may look and feel like in the hand.

There are also some extra parts, including black and white home buttons, the probability of the entire thing is still tough to establish since the video is titled with a question mark at the end.
