Apple today has released the first maintenance update for OS X Mountain Lion. The update is available from directly from Apple's Official Site or via Software Update that directs users to the Mac App Store.

This update includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that: 

- Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit 
- Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail
- Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display 
- Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent 
- Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input 
- Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names 
- Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file 
- Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials.

OS X 10.8.1 is a small update weighing in at just 24.2 MB, with Apple pushing out many high-priority fixes for issues discovered in the initial public release of OS X Mountain Lion.

Today, Apple has announced that Mountain Lion (10.8) has been downloaded three million times in four days, "making it the most successful OS X release in Apple's history".

The Gold Master edition of OS X 10.8 is already available to developers for download, meaning that the public launch of the operating system is very soon. There have been reports pointing to a 25 July launch. But, this morning's "We'll be back" notice has arrived on Apple Stores worldwide, and could mean that Mountain Lion will be made available to download today, or perhaps the company is preparing for the new OS X's arrival.

Apple is set to release the newest version of their Mac operating system 'OS X Mountain Lion later this month. OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) is a $19.99 (£13.00) upgrade that will be available on the Mac App Store.

Apple Begins Accepting OS X Mountain Lion Apps for Mac App Store

Following the release of the Golden Master edition of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple has now started accepting Mountain Lion apps into the Mac App Store.

Technically Personal Reports on some lovely code found in iOS 6 suggesting that Apple's new mapping solution may be making its way to OS X in some form. The evidence was discoveed by a developer called Cody Cooper.

"In this XML file, there is a reference to a set of Intel based graphics chipsets for which certain features like Shading are disabled. 

Cody says that older Intel chipsets are known to not support shading very well, and that’s probably why Apple wants to disable that feature on these Macs or will be software rendered."

 Its unclear exactly what form of Apple's maps would take on the Mac and whether it will be simply the same as what is it on iOS 6 or a significant change on the Mac.

Apple's new mapping system is a massive feature in Apple's new mobile operating system, enabling Apple to break free of the Google Maps relationship it has relied on since the iPhone's launch back in 2007. Apple's maps, developed in partnership with TomTom and other providers. Maps will also include integration of Siri with turn-by-turn directions, "Flyover" 3D-view imagery, and integration with Yelp for local search information.

Upgrade to Windows 8 Pro Will Cost More Than OS X Mountain Lion

Today, Microsoft has announced that the Windows 8 Pro upgrade will be $39.99. Windows fans may not be pleased to hear that the software update is going to be more expensive than OS X Mountain Lion.

Windows 8 Pro will be available across 131 markets and Microsoft also adds that your $40 will give you the ability to "add Windows Media Center for FREE through the 'Add features' section within the Windows 8 Pro," after you upgrade.

With WWDC 2012 coming up tomorrow, we thought that we should have a rumour round up of all the rumours that we have featured.

iOS 6

Ok, first up is iOS 6. Apple hasn't really been keeping this a secret, but it will play a major role in WWDC 2012. As we have mentioned in our blog, Apple has been putting up Banners featuring the un-announced version of iOS. We will expect that Apple will go over a few new features in detail at the conference. We think that one of the biggest features will be Apples own mapping solution which has been reported by multiple sites including us. OS X Mountain Lion

OS X Mountain lion is another product that we all know that Apple will be discussing at the conference. Back in February, Apple announced the new version of OS X. • iOS-like automatic downloads for Apps

iCloud

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that iCloud is a strategy for the next decade. We have seen some of the new features that Apple is planning to introduce to iCloud in iOS 6 because of a mistake from Apple:

• Support for photo sharing, notes and reminders 

MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, Mac Pros, iMacs and Retina-Display

Rumours have be stirring around that Apple may introduce a new line of Macs at the WWDC. We have also heard that Retina-class displays on Apple's new Macs maybe coming. Apple has already built in Retina-display support in OS X  and we also expect Apple to release better hardware for their new line of Macs. Here are some more rumours that we have noted:

Apple TV

Apple has been rumoured to bring a television set to the market late this year or next year. Apple may even show the new operating system for the TV at next weeks WWDC. There have been more rumours about the Apple TV and that Apple will be introducing an SDK to open up the current Apple TV set-top box to third-party developers. All of these claims may not happen next week because most of these TV claims have come from a single uncorroborated source. 

iPhone 5

So we have been hearing a lot about the next-generation iPhone. The iPhone is rumoured to be taller with a 4-inch display but not making the phone any wider. We have also featured many incredible mockups of the new next-generation iPhone, but with the highest-profile leak so far being a hands-on-video that shows the back cover of the device, as well as a smaller dock connector and the headphone jack being at the bottom of the device. However, it is unlikely that Apple will introduce the next-generation iPhone at next weeks WWDC. Most observers believe that Apple will stick to the September/October timeframe which was seen last year with the iPhone 4S.
